The Rotary Club of Stowe

District 7850 ~ Club #3766

Admitted to Rotary International August 1949
Originally Chartered March 6, 1935

Celebrating 58 years of service, the Rotary Club of Stowe was originally chartered on March 6, 1935, and admitted to Rotary International in August 1949. Membership has grown from an informal group of about 10 in 1949 to its current roster of nearly 70 members. The club meets weekly and the dinner meetings host guest speakers -- from Vermont's Governor to Miss Vermont, from high school students seeking scholarships to the late Chief Justice William Renquist -- covering a wide range of topical issues.

The Rotary Club of Stowe is a group of community leaders organized for the purpose of service to the Lamoille County region. Stowe Rotary continues it's half-century tradition of contributing the proceeds from this event for college and vocational scholarships, to local and county charities, and for aid to disaster-stricken areas nationally and internationally. For 47 years the Rotary Auction was the source of these funds. In 1997 a bold decision was made by Stowe Rotary to launch Oktoberfest as its headliner fundraiser -- and that decision has been an outstanding success! We hope you agree!

The Object of Rotary

The mission of Rotary is to encourage and foster the "Ideal of Service" as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

FIRST
The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service.

SECOND
High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying by each Rotarian of his/her occupation as an opportunity to serve society.

THIRD
The application of the "Ideal of Service" by every Rotarian to his personal, business and community life.

FOURTH
The advancement of international understanding, good will, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the "Ideal of Service."

THE FOUR-WAY TEST

1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTERFRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

The Four-Way Test has been called the shortest effective code of standards of correct practice so far devised. It is now being used by numerous trade associations, service clubs, corporations, professional institutions, and by thousands of individuals as a simple measuring stick to assist in determining what is "right" in human relations. That which deserves to live invariably lives on and its usefulness spreads.
